Stone Peters has spent 15 years installing wood floors. He started Top Tier Custom Floors in 2022 to run the work his own way, and he still measures the job, orders the material, and lays the floor himself.

He is not alone on site. Stone works with a small crew of guys he has worked with for years, and they are a big part of why this holds together. Some of the nicest things clients say afterward are about them, not the floor. The point is that they are the same people every time, not whoever the office could get that week.

That matters because of how the rest of this trade runs. Most flooring comes out of a showroom where a salesperson quotes the work and a rotating roster of subcontractors installs it. The salesperson never sees the finished floor. The crew never heard what the homeowner actually asked for. Nearly every flooring complaint worth hearing comes out of that gap.

There is no handoff here, so there is no gap. The honest tradeoff is that Stone can only be on one job at a time. The schedule is real and the calendar fills up. That is the price of having the man who quoted your floor be the man who installs it.

Licensed, and worth verifying

Top Tier Custom Floors holds California contractor license #1099373, a C-15 Flooring & Floor Covering classification, in active status.

You can and should confirm that independently at the California Contractors State License Board — and you should do the same with any contractor before signing anything. An unlicensed installer leaves you with no recourse and no bond behind the work.

What you can expect

Estimates are free and given in person, because flooring cannot be quoted accurately from photos. Subfloor flatness, slab moisture, and whatever is hiding under the existing floor all change the scope, and those are exactly the things that turn into change orders when someone quotes sight-unseen.

Stone walks the space, explains what the job needs, and talks you through the plan before anything starts. Most whole-floor jobs run three to seven working days; a full sand and refinish is three to five, plus about a week before furniture goes back. You get those dates in writing, not a reassurance about them. If the honest recommendation is a cheaper product or a screen-and-recoat instead of a full refinish, that is what you will hear.

Stone and his crew were very punctual and clean cut. My wife is highly sensative and can’t stand the scent of cigarettes I don’t judge it just bothers her and I’ve had contractors in the past that upset her with butts in the street and odor in the house. But on to the work. He did exactly what we hired him for and did it in a professional timely manner that left us with relief after hearing so many bad horror stories about contractors. A+ Stone Thanks and we will call you again on our rental property

Stone and his crew did an awesome job removing existing flooring and installed new wood flooring. They were trustworthy, professional, went above and beyond the normal scope of floor installation. The crew was sensitive to the elderly occupant and spent time conversing & visiting with the gentleman. I greatly appreciated Stone’s attention to detail and would certainly use his services again.
